Honoring a Legacy: Jan Bennett's Induction into the Finneytown Hall of Fame

We are thrilled to announce that Jan Bennett (Class of 1974) will be inducted into the Finneytown Hall of Fame at the end of August! Her dedication and service to the Finneytown community are truly remarkable, and we are excited to honor her contributions.

A Lifelong Commitment to Finneytown

Jan Bennett's journey with Finneytown Schools began early, attending Finneytown from grades 7 through 12. During her time in high school, Jan was an active and accomplished student. She was involved in Girls Chorus, Softball, Concert Choir, Soccer (as a Ball Girl), Hockey, Senior Leadership, Volleyball, and Basketball. Her participation in these activities highlights her dedication and enthusiasm for school life.

Over the years, Jan continued to deepen her connection to Finneytown by residing in three different homes within the community for over 25 years. Her commitment to the school system extended beyond her own education, as she actively supported the community through two levy campaigns. Jan's unwavering dedication to Finneytown is a testament to her belief in the importance of education and community involvement.

Faith and Service at Northminster Church

An active member of Northminster Church since her marriage in 1980, Jan has served the church community in numerous ways. She volunteered for the K.N.O.T Club and served on the Pastor’s Committee "Romans 12."

A Helping Hand in the Community

Jan's volunteer efforts extend beyond the church and school. She has been a supportive helper for Girl Scouts, participating in trips to COSI as a chaperone. She has also volunteered for "House Visits" with hospice, reading the Bible to bedridden elderly women, providing them with comfort and companionship. Jan's heart for service is further exemplified by her volunteer work with City Gospel Mission, where she has served as kitchen help and volunteer. Her efforts to support those in need have made a significant difference in the lives of many.

A Loving Family and Community Member

Married for over 41 years, Jan is a proud mother of two and grandmother of two. Her family has been a cornerstone of her life, and her commitment to them is as strong as her dedication to the community.

Coaching Career and Lasting Impact

Jan began her coaching career alongside her husband, coaching her daughter's pee wee soccer team. This marked the beginning of her over twenty-year coaching journey. Jan coached women's soccer at both the high school and club level, proudly seeing thirty-three of her players advance to play at the college level. Her investment in "her girls" extended beyond the field, attending their weddings, and meeting their babies, showing her continued support long after their soccer careers ended.

A Life Cut Short, a Legacy That Lives On

Sadly, Coach Jan's life was tragically cut short. While running errands and getting her 10,000 steps in, she was struck by a truck and killed. Jan's legacy lives on through her memorial fund: Jan Bennett Memorial Fund - a sponsorship for CWSC players whose families are experiencing financial hardships. With a goal is to help as many players as possible to continue to grow, develop, and compete in the game they love.

We are honored to celebrate Jan Bennett's remarkable legacy of service and dedication in the Finneytown Local School District and community. Her induction into the Finneytown Hall of Fame is a testament to her lifelong commitment to making our community a better place. Please join us in celebrating Jan’s incredible contributions to Finneytown!
