  • Dr. James Bernat

    Dr. James Bernat

    Class of 1965

    Dr. Bernat holds a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts (1969) where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and an M.D. from Cornell University Medical College (1973). He trained in internal medicine and neurology at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (1973-77).

    He has been a member of the Dartmouth Medical School faculty since 1976 where he has held the rank of Professor of Medicine (Neurology) since 1989. He serves as Director of the Program in Clinical Ethics at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Dr. Bernat previously served as Assistant Dean of Clinical Education at Dartmouth Medical School and Associate Chair of Neurology. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (1978). He has been elected to Fellowship in the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Neurology.

    Dr. Bernat's scholarly interests are in ethical and philosophical issues in neurology, particularly in the study of states of unconsciousness. He has served as a consultant to the Vatican on brain death and has testified before the U.S. Senate Health Committee about states of unconsciousness.

    Dr. Bernat has lectured nationally and internationally on ethical aspects of neurological practice. He has published over 150 journal articles and book chapters on topics in neurology and clinical ethics. He has authored Neurology: Problems in Primary Care, 2ndED (PMIC, 1993) and Ethical Issues in Neurology, 2nd ed. (Butterworth-Heinemann, 2002), and co-edited Palliative Care in Neurology (Oxford University Press, 2004).

  • Jennifer Ackerman-King

    Jennifer graduated magna cum laude from Finneytown High School while participating in the band and orchestra programs, and was a member of the Cincinnati Youth Symphony Orchestra and was principal flute of the Ohio All-State Orchestra. She then went to the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), where she earned a Bachelor of Music in 1988, and a Master of Music in 1995.

    She has taught privately and performed throughout the area as an orchestral, solo, and chamber musician.

    Jennifer is currently a member of the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, as well as the orchestra’s personnel manager.

    She has also performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra, Evansville (IL), Richmond (IN), and Blue Ash symphonies.

    Jennifer is married to Eric King. They have four children and are living in Finneytown.

  • Henry "Dick" Dudgeon

    Dick graduated from Lloyd High School in Erlanger, KY in 1953. He attended Eastern Kentucky University, starting out in Engineering but changing his major to Industrial Arts. He received a Bachelor of Science degree with Area Specialist in Industrial Arts. While at EKU, he played four years of varsity baseball. In 1958, he coached varsity baseball at EKU while working on his teaching degree.

    He moved to Miami, Florida to teach Industrial Arts and later came to West Union High School, where he coached and developed a new Industrial Arts program, designed classrooms and a new gym for basketball. Additionally, he helped design the new firehouse and the golf range.

    Mr. Dudgeon came to Finneytown High School in 1962 to teach Industrial Arts and also coach track and football. In that same year, he worked on the lay-out of the Industrial Arts area, as well as the building and purchasing of equipment.

    He was Varsity baseball coach from 1965 through 1989 and was selected to coach the West All-Stars three times and managed the team once.

    From 1970-1981, his students took top honors in state and local Industrial Arts shows. Many of the projects included roll top desks, metal bending, welding and castings, and a hot rod car.

    Mr. Dudgeon was also instrumental in the design and building of The Commons, the Betzing property (now known as Brent Field), and the lay-out of the soccer and baseball fields as well as the tennis courts.

    Since retiring from Finneytown, he has built new houses for both his son and daughter, and has worked in heating and air conditioning service.

  • Krista R. Flannigan J.D.

    Class of 1981

    Krista is a social worker, licensed attorney in Colorado, Professor of Criminology at Florida State University, and is experienced in providing services to victims of mass tragedy.

    She has served as the Victim Services Network/Community Justice Unit Director at the Denver District Attorney’s Office. Krista has also served as an adjunct instructor at Metro State College and Red Rocks Community College, teaching classes in domestic violence, crisis intervention, child abuse, emergency responder stress and grief counseling.

    Formerly, she was the PIO/ Victim Services Consultant with the Office of the District Attorney in the 5th Judicial District Office regarding a high profile case in that office.

    Among many other things, she has worked with the Office for Victims of Crime and the Center for Disease Control to develop and implement a victim assistance response to bio-chemical terrorist attacks. She was a victim services consultant for Jefferson County in response to the Columbine High School shooting and she previously served as the co-Director for the Colorado Oklahoma Resource Council (“CORC”).

    Krista worked six years with a District Attorney's Office in a Colorado mountain community. She served on the committee that drafted the Colorado Victim Rights Amendment and enabling legislation and is currently an advisory member of the National Victim Rights Amendment Network.

  • Dr. Chris Lewis

    Dr. Chris Lewis

    Class of 1992

    While at Finneytown, Chris Lewis spent 6 years (junior high and high school) in the orchestra playing violin. His sports career included 2 years JV soccer, 2 years Varsity Soccer, 4 years wrestling (1 year JV, 3 years Varsity). He was a three time sectional champion, two-time Finneytown Invitational champ, two-time league champion, and state-qualifier. He also volunteered as varsity coach from 2000-2006.

    Dr. Christopher Lewis is a Family Physician working for Alliance Primary Care in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Harvard University in 1996. Upon returning home for medical school and residency at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Lewis completed the International Health tract, was honored with the Intern of the Year award in 2001, and served as Chief Resident in 2002-2003.

    In 2004, he founded Village Life Outreach Project, a non-profit organization whose mission is to unite communities to promote life, health, and education. Village Life is currently focused on fighting the battle against poverty in Tanzania, East Africa.

    Dr. Lewis’s international health experience includes work in Honduras, El Salvador, Kenya, and Tanzania. He holds a faculty position with the University of Cincinnati Department of Family Medicine, and volunteers his time training undergraduates, medical students and medical residents.

    He has served as a local health expert on over 30 local news programs, and is on the board of directors of the West End Health Center in Cincinnati. Dr. Lewis is a diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine, an active member of the American Academy of Family Medicine, and a committee chair of the Cincinnati Medical Association.

    He also speaks to public school students across Cincinnati about sexual health and responsibility.

  • Dr. Joseph Speaks

    Steward of Finneytown

    Dr. Speaks graduated cum laude from Athenaeum of Ohio and Gregorian University in Rome, Italy with STL (Masters Degree) in Theology. He has his Master in Education from Xavier University, and has a double major in Counseling and Educational Psychology from the University of Cincinnati.

    From 1965-1970, Dr. Speaks served as a pastoral assistant at St. Aloysius Church in Cincinnati and also taught and was a counselor and Guidance Director at Elder High School. From 1970 to 1973, he was a counselor at Newport High School as well as a graduate assistant at the University of Cincinnati. He came to Finneytown High School in 1973 as a counselor. He was appointed high school assistant principal in 1985 and became principal in 1990.

    He initiated the first meeting of the Cincinnati and Suburban School Counselor Association. He was a candidate for President of the Ohio Personnel and Guidance Association and was a long time local representative to that organization as well as to the Ohio School Counselors Association. He was also an officer in the Archdiocesan School Counselor Association. He chaired the planning committee for the 1976 All-Ohio, an annual statewide meeting of counselors and other school personnel. He is a past president of the Greater Cincinnati Association for Counseling and Development and in 1990 was received the Mary Foster Corry award from that organization.

    Dr. Speaks has served as an adjunct instructor at local universities including the University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, and Northern Kentucky University. Courses taught included Developmental Psychology: The Early Years, Adolescent Psychology, Educational and Vocational Guidance, Counseling Lab, and Counseling Techniques. Dr. Speaks also served on the Finneytown Schools Career Education project and was active in the initial planning contingent housed at Great Oaks.

    Dr. Speaks passed away on January 19, 2012.
